BuildVision · BTUs & GPUs

Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated:

This policy explains how BuildVision handles information associated with BTUs & GPUs, from loading an episode to remembering your model settings, and how to contact us about your privacy rights.

See the Terms & Conditions for site use. The BuildVision services privacy policy covers its separate products and services.

1. Who we are and what this covers

BuildVision Inc. (“BuildVision,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is responsible for the personal information it handles in operating btusandgpus.com, the BTUs & GPUs website and related podcast features (the “Site”). This Policy describes that information, its uses and disclosures, and your choices. It applies to this Site and Site-related communications, not to every BuildVision product or service.

Separate BuildVision services, customer data processed under a customer agreement, employment matters, and third-party podcast or social platforms are governed by their respective notices and agreements. Following a link to buildvision.io or using its application takes you to a separate service with its own data practices. This Policy is a notice, not consent to processing that requires a separate opt-in.

2. Information collected and its sources

Information you provide: If you email us or otherwise contact us about the Site, we receive the contact details, message contents, attachments, and other information you choose to share, together with our responses. Please do not send sensitive personal information, confidential project files, credentials, or information about others that you are not authorized to provide. If you join the podcast email list, we collect your email address and your agreement to receive new episodes and occasional show updates. The Site has no visitor accounts, checkout, or public comment submission form.

Request and device information: Delivering pages, images, audio, video, and feeds exposes information to our hosting and delivery providers, such as IP address, request URL, date and time, browser or device information, referrer when supplied by your browser, and response or error details. These records may indicate approximate location and which content was requested. Media requests, including metadata preloading, can occur before playback. A request or download is not necessarily evidence that an episode was listened to.

Preferences: The Site stores theme-audio and interactive-model preferences in your browser. Model controls and their illustrative calculations run in the browser; the Site does not provide a project-file upload feature. We do not ask for precise location, payment card details, government identifiers, or sensitive personal information to browse the Site.

Other sources: If you contact us through an external platform, we may receive the profile details and communications that platform makes available. Podcast distributors or media providers may make aggregated audience or download reports available to publishers. Information independently collected by those platforms is subject to their own policies.

3. Cookies, local storage, and tracking

The Site uses browser local storage for functional preferences: “btus-theme” remembers when you turn the theme audio off, and “btus-model-preferences-v1” remembers model display preferences such as temperature units, labels, and sidebar settings. Theme audio plays only after you explicitly press the theme button; it does not start automatically on a new page load. These entries remain on your device until cleared or changed. They are read by the Site’s browser code and are not automatically sent with HTTP requests as cookies are.

The current Site application does not include advertising pixels, third-party behavioral analytics scripts, or cross-site advertising trackers. Hosting and media infrastructure may process request logs and use technologies necessary for delivery, reliability, or security. This statement is specific to BTUs & GPUs; linked BuildVision services and third-party platforms may use different technologies.

You can delete or block cookies and local storage in your browser’s site-data settings. This can reset preferences or affect functionality. Clearing browser storage does not delete server logs or correspondence already received. The Site does not change behavior in response to legacy Do Not Track headers. It does not currently conduct sale, cross-context behavioral advertising sharing, or targeted advertising that would require a Global Privacy Control opt-out; legally required opt-out signals will be honored for any processing to which they apply.

4. How information is used

We use Site-related information to deliver pages and media, remember choices, respond to inquiries and rights requests, diagnose problems, assess service reliability, prevent abuse and fraud, protect rights and safety, maintain appropriate business records, and comply with legal obligations. We may use aggregated or appropriately deidentified information to understand audience interest and improve content. Where law requires deidentified information to remain deidentified, we will not attempt to reidentify it except as legally permitted.

If you request updates or other communications, we use your contact information to fulfill that request. Browsing the Site or subscribing to its RSS feed does not itself subscribe you to a BuildVision email marketing list. You can opt out of any marketing email using its unsubscribe instructions or by contacting us; operational or legally required responses may still be sent.

5. When information is disclosed

Email subscriptions: We use Resend to store podcast subscriber email addresses and manage the BTUs & GPUs mailing list. A signup notification containing your email address is sent to Ben at BuildVision. We use this list for the show updates you requested; you can unsubscribe using the link in a broadcast email or by contacting us.

Providers: Information may be processed by providers supporting hosting, content delivery, media storage, email, security, troubleshooting, and related operations. Site podcast assets may be delivered through Vercel Blob, and external feed or artwork hosts may receive requests when their content is loaded. We disclose information as needed for the relevant service and applicable legal obligations.

Legal and protective purposes: We may disclose relevant information to professional advisers, courts, regulators, law enforcement, or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, establish or defend claims, investigate misuse, or protect rights, property, and safety, subject to applicable law.

Business transactions: Information may be disclosed in connection with due diligence, financing, restructuring, merger, acquisition, insolvency, or a transfer of the business or assets supporting the Site, subject to appropriate confidentiality and applicable privacy requirements. A successor’s handling remains subject to applicable law and required notices.

At your direction: We may disclose information when you ask us to or give applicable consent. We do not sell personal information collected through this Site or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. Ordinary service-provider processing described here supports Site operations.

6. Podcast platforms and external services

Podcast subscriptions, RSS readers, social networks, and linked websites operate independently. When you use them, they may collect account, device, listening, and interaction information under their own terms and privacy policies. The Site does not receive your password or full platform account merely because you follow a subscription link. Review the provider’s notice and settings before using its service.

External media and artwork hosts can receive your request information when content loads, even if you remain on this Site. We do not control independent providers’ privacy practices. Our responsibility for our own selection and use of service providers remains subject to applicable law.

7. Retention and security

Personal information is retained for as long as reasonably needed for its purpose, such as handling a request, operating and securing the Site, meeting recordkeeping obligations, or resolving a dispute. Retention depends on the type of record, provider retention settings, legal requirements, and whether preservation is needed for an investigation or legal claim. Browser preferences remain until you clear or change them. Backup copies may persist through normal backup cycles, subject to applicable requirements.

We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information and its processing, but no website, network transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed secure. Avoid transmitting sensitive information through unsolicited email. If you suspect misuse involving this Site, contact us using the details below.

8. Privacy rights and requests

Depending on your location and the laws that apply to BuildVision’s processing, you may have rights to know about and access your information; correct inaccuracies; request deletion; obtain a portable copy; object to or restrict processing; withdraw consent where processing relies on consent; and opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain consequential profiling. We do not use Site information for automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects. These rights are subject to statutory scope, exceptions, and identity verification.

To make a request, email Ben@BuildVision.io with “BTUs & GPUs privacy request,” describe your request, and provide enough information to locate relevant records. Do not send identity documents or sensitive identifiers unless we request them through an appropriate process. We may request proportionate verification to prevent unauthorized disclosure or deletion. Authorized agents may submit requests where law permits; we may verify their authority and your identity.

We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and explain any applicable denial, extension, or exception. Where you have a right to appeal a denied request, reply with “Privacy appeal” for reconsideration. You may also contact your competent privacy regulator or state attorney general. We will not unlawfully discriminate or retaliate against you for exercising privacy rights.

California residents: To the extent applicable, the categories collected are identifiers and contact information, internet or network activity and device information, approximate location derived from IP addresses, and information voluntarily included in correspondence. The sources, purposes, recipient categories, and retention criteria are described above. We do not sell or share Site personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, including information about people under 16, and do not disclose it to third parties for their own direct marketing. California rights apply where their statutory requirements are met.

9. International visitors

BuildVision is based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States or other places where relevant providers operate; privacy protections may differ from those in your location. Where an applicable law restricts international transfers, we rely on a permitted transfer mechanism and required safeguards rather than treating your visit alone as consent to the transfer. Contact us for information about safeguards applicable to your information.

Where European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Swiss data protection law applies, BuildVision acts as controller for the Site information it determines how and why to process. Depending on the activity, legal bases include legitimate interests in delivering and securing the Site and responding to inquiries, compliance with legal obligations, performance of a contract or requested pre-contractual steps where relevant, and consent when required. Legitimate interests are subject to your rights and the balancing required by law. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and complain to your local supervisory authority. Withdrawing consent does not affect prior lawful processing.

10. Children’s information

The Site is intended for a general professional and adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or below another applicable age requiring parental consent without that consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete or otherwise handle it as required by law.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Site, providers, or applicable requirements change. The date at the top identifies the current version. We will provide additional notice of material changes, and obtain consent where required, before using previously collected information in a way that requires it. New features with materially different information practices will receive appropriate disclosures. Continued browsing does not waive your privacy rights or substitute for legally required consent.
